14 - 15 Sep 2024
1930s end-of-terrace
Heating: 8kw air source heat pump. The house is now off gas.
Big Insulation Works: 10cm rock wool external wall insulation around the whole house. Outer front door to create air-lock. Additional 30cm loft insulation under stilted floor. Insulated loft hatch.
Glazing: Double or triple glazed throughout house.
Lighting systems and electrical appliances: LED bulbs and induction hob.
Renewables: 7 PV panels on roof.
Water management: water butt, bucket in shower to catch water before it becomes hot
Sustainable building materials: rock wool insulation, some timber-framed triple glazed windows
Lifestyle changes: smart meter, Octopus 'Cosy Tariff' incentivises us to set the heat pump to work when demand is low (4-7am) or renewable energy plentiful (1-4pm). We try to use electrical appliances when the sun is shining.
