Natural and low embodied energy materials have been used where appropriate, such as timber fibre insulation for the external wall insulation. Having completed the work to the fabric of the house, we are now finishing internal alterations. The high levels of insulation avoid the need for central heating and infrared heating and local heating during PV generation times is used instead combined with appropriate clothing. The PVs heat the water in a cylinder with an electric top up immersion heater. The house appliances, e.g. washing machine, vacuuming are used when the PVs are generating electricity. Rainwater is collected and piped into the house to be used in the ground floor WC.
